How Everyday People Are Sparking Movements

Updated: Oct 9, 2025

Most of us want to grow spiritually, but let’s be honest, it’s easy to feel stuck. Sermons, podcasts, and books are helpful, but sometimes they leave us inspired without really knowing how to live it out.

There’s a simple, powerful way to grow that doesn’t depend on a pastor, program, or building. It’s called Discovery Bible Study (DBS), and it’s quietly fueling movements of disciples around the world, including right here through Kingdom Life.

Why DBS Works

At its core, DBS isn’t about someone teaching while everyone else listens. Instead, God’s Word becomes the teacher, and everyone learns together through discovery.

Here’s why it’s so effective:

  • Simple and Reproducible - Anyone can do it. You don’t need a degree or special training, just a Bible and a few friends.

  • Obedience-Based, Not Knowledge-Based - It’s not about how much you know, but how much you obey and apply.

  • Empowers Everyone - Leadership is shared. The group grows together as each person takes ownership.

  • Built to Multiply - Because it’s so simple, DBS groups naturally multiply as people invite others and start new groups.

For Kingdom Life, DBS is more than just a meeting format, it’s the heartbeat of our movement. Every week, groups gather to hear from God, commit to real action, and hold one another accountable. This rhythm of listening and obeying fuels multiplication, not just of individual disciples but of entire networks of groups.

How It Works

A DBS meeting keeps things simple and interactive:

  1. One person reads a passage out loud from one Bible translation.

  2. Another person reads it again in a different translation.

  3. A third person summarizes the story in their own words.

  4. The group discusses three simple questions:

    • What does this passage tell me about God or Jesus?

    • What does it tell me about people?

    • If this is truly God’s Word, what change do I need to make in my life?

This keeps the focus where it belongs: God speaking through His Word, and His people responding with obedience.

The Bigger Picture

At Kingdom Life, we’ve seen how these simple gatherings multiply. As people experience God for themselves, they naturally invite others. Groups multiply into new groups, and those groups grow into networks of multiplying communities.

This isn’t about filling a room with spectators. It’s about equipping everyday people to make disciples who make disciples.

Picture living rooms, coffee shops, and backyards all across our city filled with people hearing from God and committing to follow Him together. That’s how movements begin, and it all starts with something as simple as opening the Bible and asking three questions.
